Your CBD Store opens in Mountain Brook, AL

Alabama’s ongoing love affair with CBD products has come to Mountain Brook. Your CBD Store held a soft opening at its English Village location last week. An official grand opening is set for tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Owner Joe Tanko said the store features about 750 square feet of retail space.

“The reaction has been very positive,” Tanko said. “A lot of people have come in saying they’re glad we’re here, because now they don’t have to drive down (U.S. 280) to get products.”

Cannabidiol, or CBD oil, is made from industrial hemp. Some products with CBD contain a tiny percentage of THC, the intoxicating substance found in marijuana. CBD oil can also be derived from marijuana, and the Alabama Legislature has allowed limited exceptions to the law against marijuana possession for the use of CBD oil. The 2018 Agriculture and Nutrition Act also changed the legal status of hemp from a controlled substance to an agricultural commodity.

These developments have led to a proliferation of CBD products and stores to sell them. Your CBD Store is a chain with 24 locations in Alabama, but Tanko’s only store is this location, situated in the city which leads the state in most measures of income. He said he got into the business at the suggestion of his daughter after he retired.

Mountain Brook city officials said there was no opposition to the store and the business license process was routine.

Tinctures and topical creams seem to be the early popular products, as Tanko offers “Tincture Tuesday” and “Water Soluble Wednesday” promotions. The proximity of the store to a nail salon also results in a lot of bath bombs sold, he said.

“I guess they want to continue relaxing throughout the day,” he said. “I hope that continues.”
